22 August 2009 – 26 August 2009 This was stop one in Vietnam and represented our first port of call during the trip where we had no idea what was going to happen next with no set itinerary from here on. As we were arriving late in Hanoi and Pezza was suffering from what is [...] We arrived in Hanoi on Saturday and are here again now however we have spent the last two days out and about in Ha Long Bay… There are no words that can describe this place that can possibly do it justice. I’ll have a stab at it anyway. What you see in the pictures [...] After a week in Singapore & KL with their hefty taxes on alcohol we were looking forward to having a bit of a blow out in filthy-cheap Bangkok where a bucket of strong cocktail will set you back about three pounds whereas pint in KL was about the same price. Our plans were scuppered in [...] We knew we’d enjoy Kuala Lumpur, we don’t know too many who have been but I haven’t heard a bad word spoken about it and the pictures you see tell it all – a vibrant and modern city in typical Asian surroundings. As I said in the first KL blog, we arrived in the afternoon [...] Getting to Asia from the Western World can be a culture shock; some people arrive and feel at home but for me it takes a few days to adjust from the way we do things in the UK to life in a bustling Asian street with hawkers selling local grub from their stalls and taxi [...] I get on very well with Las Vegas. Some say it’s artificial, cheesy and tacky. I agree and I love it. What I love most of all is that Las Vegas Strip is a brilliant leveller of people. If you walk down there you will walk past a couple in their dinner dress going [...] Three nights in Singapore is just about enough I think. I hate wanting to leave a place, had we stayed another night or two then I think this may have been the case. It’s a great place but as it’s first up on the list of places we’re travelling to we have itchy feet and [...] My first post on this South East Asia trip comes to you from the most ‘un S.E. Aisian’ city of the lot.
