Weekly Photo: Krakow, May 2008

The centre of Krakow immediately reminded me of Prague with its style and huge market square. Indeed, the centre itself is listed as a World Heritage Site.

We went in May 2008 and I would like nothing more than be able to tell you about how it has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural and artistic life [Wikipedia].

Unfortunately I cannot say any of this because I have no idea myself; my first paragraph was very much based on first impressions but the reason we were there was for Foe’s Stag Weekend. It was an unbelievably fun weekend and a classic case of ‘Brits Abroad’ thanks in no small part to the likes of EasyJet letting us fly there for bugger all.

Because of EasyJet flying there it has very much become one of Eastern Europe’s top stag destinations and the plane could well have been called Stag Air as approximately 60% of the entire plane were on a stag do – one group in fancy dress which made clearing immigration in Poland fun. “Excuse me, sir, can you remove your Buzz Lightyear head so I can check your passport photograph.”

You hear stories nearly every day about how locals can’t stand drunk Brits abroad but as long as you can get a return flight for under £70 and buy a pint for under £1.00 you can’t complain when a load of lads turn up in Greece dressed up as nuns. I could bang on for hours about this.
