Tignes: Week Deux

This has been a craking week. I’m not going to spend the next four and a half months saying: The snow’s great and we’re having fun, as I would hope you would assume that much. Wht is great about coming out here for the season is that you can look out of the window in the morning and if, like today, it’s really bad weather (lots of snow and so windy that 70% of the lifts are shut) then you don’t feel like you’re missing out on much by staying in and watching the footy, as I’m sure you Whistler lot can vouch for.

Today is really the first mega day of the season, the town was awash with coaches yesterday as the first wave of British snowhounds came to town. Saturday is usually quiet on the slopes because it is transfer day and we were able to take advantage of the empty slopes and blue skies! Saturday was always going to be a good day because not only was the mountain brilliant but we had the triple-whammy of the football (0-0), X-Factor final and the wonderful Girls Aloud Christmas Party – they are huge stars and I will never forget the time we saw them trying to establish their names by singing at the Twenty20 Finals Day at the Oval on the best day of 2005 – how they’ve grown up!

We’ve had a couple of nights out, including the opening night of Scotty’s in Le Lavachet who celebrated with a beach party that threw up some free shots and blokes in bikinis!

One of those truely random moments occurred last night when we went to the pub to watch the footy – we bumped into Hugo of Meribel ‘99 fame; we walked into our local and a bloke who looks suspiciously like Teage said hello and that cued lots of reminiscing from ski holidays past.

I have now started my morning shifts on the Radio – if anybody is interested you can listen to the station via this link. All I do is provide local ski report and a guide to what’s going on in the resort. I’m on between 7.20am and 8.20am (UK time) and do three bullitens (one every half hour). I also record some stuff that goes out every day at 4.30pm – if you’re quick you’ll catch today’s! I’m still new to the whole radio game so if I’m still a bit shit then do forgive me.

We’ve got a good week coming up – the weather is going to stay poo for the next couple of days but that means that by the time Easty is ready to board on Wednesday we would have had another 40cm of the White Stuff; I’m not sure how it’ll pan out though as Tuesday night is The Night of 1000 Shots in TC’s bar.

As for tonight, it’s Cheap Rose Wine Night in Jam Bar. Could be interesting.
