Waddle Fat Boy, Waddle
This is a bit of an update as to what’s been occupying Planet Andy over the last couple of weeks, apart from the Munich goings on described in my earlier post.
My life did get a bit like Joey described to Ross in an episode of Friends that I saw this week:
Ross: I am bored out of my mind. I’ve already been to the bank, the post office, and the dry cleaners.
Joey: Dude, you just described seven days worth of stuff. You’ve got to spread it out a little, you know? Haven’t you ever been unemployed?
No prizes for guessing who I play.
A couple of Sundays ago was Superbowl Sunday. Ever since Sky have got hold of the NFL it’s been a bit more accessible and with no Monday morning to worry about I guess Sunday night television was always going to be a winner. I’ve steadily got more into NFL over the season and I was quite uncomfortable about this because I’ve always seen it as a dull American sport where the ‘World Champions’ never have to play a team from another country. This season was different though as since the game at Wembley in October NFL audiences in the UK went up over 40%, so it seemed a viable bandwagon to jump on.
Anyway, Foe & Easty had always banged on about how good Superbowl Sunday was in North America and it was always one of the better drinking days of the year. I suppose that’s why Foe rocked up at the flat at 9.00pm with a bottle of tequila.
I’d never had a Desperado before but the ingredients are ingenious; lager, lime cordial & tequila. The combination is actually quite refreshing, despite putting a healthy slug of tequila the lime takes the taste away. As you can imagine, it got quite sticky and at 3.30am we had done nearly half a bottle of tequila. I can safely say the best way to enjoy American sport is when smashed. Foe was particularly happy as he backed the underdogs, the NY Giants, and won £135. He wasn’t too clever when he got up for work, 3 hours late.
That evening I got the call I love, Foe’s company are a man short for their annual karting competition. I joined the team and we beat the other construction teams in the competition – we won a couple of huge trophies to go with the title.
Friday was spent at funeral, Moira who used to live next door to my folks died after a bang on the head. The crematorium was packed and the wake was a very appropriate occasion with the family kicking things off with a Champagne toast to Moira’s life. That set the mood to one of celebration as everyone reflected about the good times. It was certainly one of the heavier funerals I’ve been to!
You may have noticed as well in this post that I’m learning a few more things about Blogging such as the links in the post, the clock and headlines on the left and finally the map below.
This is a map of the run I took on Sunday. It’s the first in my road runs before the 10K on 18 May as everything has been gym based so far. I was going to wait until the clocks went back with lighter nights and warmer weather but I needed to pop down to Old Trafford early on Sunday in order to secure the programmes from the derby on Sunday that everybody had ordered from me – and it was a really nice day. So, I’ve started on 3.43KM, which wasn’t a great ordeal but it’s so different from running on the treadmill. I will slowly increase to 10KM over the weeks and months. Karen & I have also put our names down for the Great North Run in October, but it’s a bit of a lottery as to whether you get in or not.
