Dubai
So, Dubai (or ‘Doubai’ as the French call it). 3/4 days is probably about enough here, unless you want to spend longer sunbathing. The weather is five stars at this time of year, not too hot but hot enough to know you’d frazzle without the suncream.
We checked into the hotel on Sunday morning after a quick stroll around the mall that adjoins the hotel. This is the Mall of the Emirates, famous for having the indoor ski slope attached to it. After check in we headed to the Al Qasr (”Al Cassa”) hotel where my folks are staying, this is another top hotel but has the edge over ours in that it’s on the beach so we’ve generally spent our days down there trying not to burn.
The hotel has a fabulous view of the Burj Al Arab hotel but it’s enjoyed best at about 7pm when it bursts into a series of colours and fire (I’ll pop the video on here in due course). The folks have the use of an exec balcony that overlooks it – a nice view to get gently toasted to!
On Monday we headed to the Wild Wadi waterpark – just good innocent wet fun. It is amusing however when you see a chap walking by in his speedos only to be followed by his wife covered head to toe in clobber but still going on all the water rides. It may be my ignorant western values but that doesn’t make it any less amusing. For example, when you see a girm totally covered up get out of the water and, because she is wet you can see her entire tits you’ve got to think just how much of her dignity is being kept.
We’ve enjoyed the ‘Disney’ nature of Dubai with it’s themed hotels and attractions but it is still a fantastic place. If you look to the horizon in any direction all you can see is building work from the Palm, the World and all around so you would think that in 4-5 years time it will be finished and provided there’s no major changes in this part of the world it should be a phenomenal place.
It’s now Wednesday morning and we leave this evening to go to Bangkok so I thought I’d do a spot of Blogging and Facebook-Photo-Putting-On. I spent this morning doing by far the most bizarre activity in Dubai, I had a bit of a Ski. It’s full of people like me who are competent skiers who will never be challenged by an indoor slope but are happy to part with 150 Dirhams so that they can say to their mates “I’ve skied in Dubai!” It’s still a fantastic experience though, the hotel we’re in has rooms overlooking the slope that are styled as Alpine log cabins with faux fireplaces etc. If you’re gonna do something you may as well do it properly I suppose.
Off now to check out and spend the day by the folks’ pool again before heading off to the airport at 9pm local time.
Andy!
PS – good to see everyone keeping Rhydian in X Factor still!!

PPS It’s not Wednesday morning anymore, the blog wouldn’t update in the room for some reason. We’ve had a great final day and are now on our way to destination #2 – See you in Bangkok!
PPPS – It looks like I’m having a bit of sadness getting images on here right now – I’ll try again in Bang Cock and hopefully have some joy.
