So what do retired people do?
Saturday was eventful. Karen was in work so I set myself for a day of sport. The majority of the day was spent watching Lancashire’s fourth day innings against Surrey (via the red button on Sky Sports, marvellous). It was simple – get 480ish and they win the league. It was a monumental effort but they fell about 24 runs short. I flicked intermittently to the Twenty20 semi finals and Jeff & The Boys for the football. A good day, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Pezza came home and had her obligatory nap, we then hit the town to celebrate my retirement. We had a lovely meal in the new Don Giovannis. A few of the doom-mongering websites said it wasn’t as good since it moved but the food was excellent and the service lightning quick – highly recommended! We then had a couple of drinks down Deansgate Locks. I was battered as I’d been drinking all afternoon, so we didn’t make it to Walkabout I’m afraid.
Sunday. Again, Karen was in work and all day was spent building up to the Chelsea match whilst nursing a slight hangover. A great result courtesy of some brave refereeing I think! It was glorious watching the rent boys cry over the departure of the Special (needs) One. We then settled into catching up on Heroes for the evening. Fairly uneventful really!
As for today, more activity! One of my retirement tasks is to sort the bedroom furniture out. We visited a bedroom showroom or two. Now, Karen and I aren’t the best when it comes to decisions so the thought of going for modern white wardrobes with a black back glaze takes a lot of head scratching. In the end I just think we let the woman decide for us. I think.
It was then up to Cheetham Hill to see another ‘outstanding’ nursery. I’m almost starting to believe that we have a little boy called Jamie who’s still in nappies. The little turd, costing us a fortune in nursery fees!
We then had an interesting altercation in the gym. We went to a boxercise class (it’s boxing AND exercise!). Half way through Karen had to run out shouting, “I’m gonna be sick!”
Bless her, not used to exercise.
As I write this she’s engrossed in Eastenders. Nothing seems to be happening other then the rough one trying to blag money for rent and Pat looking all serious. Still not sure what Samantha Janus is doing in it – bring back Game On I say!
Once the ‘duff duffs’ have sounded (every man’s favourite sound as it signals the end of Eastenders) we’ll settle into more Heroes!
Not bad this retirement lark!
