Happy Retirement

So it’s done. I am retired.

The day started well, they told me not to turn up until about 10.30am. I then get a text that said:

Internet down. Going to be a long day. Don’t bother coming in unless you’re on your way.

I get into town at about 11.30am and there was a gathering in Albert Square, it was for the Ricky Hatton press coference that was taking place inside the Town Hall and broadcast on the big screen Sky had set up. It was broadcast live on Sky Sports News and Hatton was on good form. After a bit of singing with Floyd Mayweather doing some mocking dancing Ricky announced in a flat Mancunian accent “I think you’d agree that if he dances like he boxes then he’s fuckin’ goin’ down.”

All this live on Sky Sports.

He then continues with, “Floyd, get off me fuckin’ dick ya puff.”

Sky then cut their broadcast of the press conference short announcing that Hatton is clearly under a lot of pressure. Great stuff.
I roll in to work at 12.00pm after stopping at Sayer’s to get the cakes and my first duty is to go out to collect the Nando’s.

The rest of the day was spent eating Nando’s and trying to find a suitable car to hire for the drive from Brisbane to Sydney and receiving messages wishing me well for colleagues who also thanked me for staying on for the week. After a bit more minor Facebooking I call it a day at about 4.45pm, I wasn’t too sentimental bout my final evening rush hour.

Although the last couple of weeks have been a bit of a joke, it really is a great place and I’m a bit gutted to be out of there – when the ‘main uber-boss’ calls to wish you well and to say that your job would be open if ever I changed my mind or lose all my money in Vegas you know it’s a decent place.

The weekend will be spent with the usual activities of lying in bed, watching sport and drinking. Karen and I are out tomorrow night for a retirement dinner. Next week is’t full steam ahead registering with offsted, looking at courses and generally researching nurseries with brief periods of intermittent sitting.
